WPP rebuilds a stone cairn and a bench!

Last Friday the White Peak Planning team volunteered with the Peak District Peak Park Conservation Volunteers (PPCV) for the second time! The PPCV have worked for over 40 years to protect the Peak District National Park with the help of volunteers.

In our last day out we aided in the restoration of a section of the Pennine Way in Derbyshire; for our second day volunteering we helped restore a cairn at the top of Jacobs Ladder, in Edale.

The work we completed involved clearing the path of the remnants of the previous cairn before using the stones to rebuild the cairn and creating a bench providing a lovely view across Edale Valley to Mam Tor.

Below are some quotes from the team when asked what they thought of the day:

Rob – “I want an ice cream.”

Jodie – “Today was alright.” (This is as close to Jodie admitting she had a good time as anyone could hope for)

Kirti – “Topped up the cairn and my tan!”

Liam – “I reckon I’d have done alright in ancient Egypt.”
