Consultation on NPPF and National Model Design Guide
The MHCLG have announced that new draft versions of the NPPF and National Model Design Guide are to undergo consultation from the 29th January – 27th March 2021.
The proposals outlined within the new NPPF do not seek entire changes, but instead a number of small changes which have partly been proposed in response to the Building Better Building Beautiful Commission (BBBC) recommendations.
The government prepared the BBBC with the aim of championing beauty in the built environment, as an integral part of the drive to build the homes that our communities need.
The NPPF has responded to the findings of the BBBC by incorporating their recommendations for a stronger focus on beauty in national planning policy, to ensure the system helps to foster more attractive buildings and places, while also helping to prevent ‘ugliness’.
Other changes proposed include the strengthening of environmental policy to incorporate the 17 Goals for Sustainable Development and changes to remove or amend out of date material.
